TAMBORINE MOUNTAIN -      The Green behind the Gold

Situated in the Scenic Rim Shire

The 'Green behind the Gold' is used under license from the Tamborine Mountain Chamber of Commerce.

Witches Falls on Tamborine Mountain was Queenslands very first National Park!  Nowadays Tamborine Mountain includes 7 National Parks, with a variety of sub-tropical rainforests, waterfalls, countless birds and other wild life and is accessible through a network of sign posted bushwalks, suitable for all levels of bush walkers.

Tamborine Mountain is a volcanic plateau eight kilometers long, five kilometers wide and 560 meters above sea level. The ˜Green behind the Gold™ is the term given to this lush hinterland that sweeps up from the golden beaches of the Gold Coast to the lush green of Tamborine Mountain.

Tamborine Mountain is home to a myriad of cottage industries such as Art Galleries, Crafts, Coffee Shops and Devonshire Teas, in addition to the many nurseries and restaurants and of course the wineries.

The mountain retains its unique rural heritage and is renowned for its produce, particularly avocados, rhubarb, kiwifruit and flowers, which can be purchased from small road side stands or come to the 'green shed' in the showground on Sunday mornings to get the full spread of local produce directly from the farmer.

For those who prefer to sample the local cuisine there are many cafes, cosy tea houses and fabulous restaurants, each with their own individual style.  Many of the establishments offer both indoor and outdoor tables for you to enjoy a splendid view or just sit at leisure in a peaceful tea garden.

Almost any day, Hang Gliders can be observed launching off the Mountain, circling like giant birds and enjoying the views.  But even those of us that prefer to stay on solid ground, the views all around are just spectacular.  It is well worth a weekend stay to enjoy the views of the Gold Coast at night with the panorama of lights.  Tamborine Mountain offers different accommodation facilities, but is most famous for its variety of beautiful B&B's and Cottages.  Stay the night and get pampered with a delicious breakfast in the morning and than enjoy all the beautiful things Mount Tamborine has to offer during the day.

Because of Tamborine Mountain's altitude and unique climate you will see many exotic plants, which are on show once a year in September during the 'Garden Festival'.  Make sure to book your accommodation early for this one!
